Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Chrome extension RecordDA handles user data. Please read it carefully, as the Extension records browser activity and uploads it to a Report Portal server for storage and review.

1. Overview

RecordDA is a debugging and test-reporting tool. When a user starts a recording, it captures activity from the active browser tab — including screen video, network requests (HAR), and browser console logs — and uploads the captured session to the Report Portal backend (reportsv1.best-quality.in), where it is saved as a record the user can later view.

2. Data We Collect

When you start a recording, the Extension may capture and process:

• Screen recording video of the captured tab/screen
• Network activity — HTTP/HTTPS requests and responses, including headers, request bodies, and text-based response bodies, packaged as a HAR file
• Console logs — messages, warnings, errors, and uncaught exceptions emitted by the page
• The active tab URL and basic recording metadata (duration, timestamps, browser type)
• Authentication token — read from your Report Portal session to authorize uploads (see Section 4)

3. How Data is Used and Stored

Captured data is used solely to provide the Extension's functionality:

• Uploading the screen recording, HAR file, and console log file to the Report Portal server
• Creating a record in your Report Portal project so the session can be reviewed
• Opening the created record in a new browser tab after upload

Uploaded recordings are stored on the Report Portal backend (reportsv1.best-quality.in) under your account/project and are subject to that service's own data handling and retention practices. All capturing and uploading happens only when you explicitly start a recording.

4. Authentication

To upload recordings, the Extension reads your existing Report Portal access token from the Report Portal site's local storage and stores a copy in the browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) so it can be used from any tab. This token is sent only to the Report Portal server (reportsv1.best-quality.in) as an authorization header for upload and record-creation requests. It is not sent anywhere else.

5. Permissions Usage

• Debugger Permission: Used to attach to the active tab and capture network and console events.
• Tabs Permission: Used to identify the active tab, read the Report Portal token, and open the created record in a new tab.
• Downloads Permission: Used to save generated files (e.g., a local ZIP of the session) when requested.
• Storage Permission: Used to store the authentication token, recording state, and preferences locally.
• Offscreen Permission: Used to run screen/media recording and packaging in an offscreen document.
• Alarms Permission: Used to keep the recording process alive and perform background timing tasks.
• Host Permissions: Granted for reportsv1.best-quality.in (and a local development endpoint) to read the auth token and upload recordings.

6. Data Sharing

The Extension transmits captured recordings and the authentication token only to the Report Portal server (reportsv1.best-quality.in) for the purposes described above. The Extension does not sell user data or share it with advertising or unrelated third parties.

7. User Control

• Capturing and uploading start only when you initiate a recording
• You can stop a recording at any time
• You can choose which project a recording is saved to before uploading
• Records stored on the Report Portal server can be managed or deleted through that service

8. Data Security

Data is captured locally in your browser and transmitted to the Report Portal server over HTTPS. While in transit and at rest on the server, data is handled according to the Report Portal service's security practices. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
